UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn will headline UFC Fight Night on Jan. 15 in Phoenix, a special Sunday night event, against Yair Rodriguez.

Penn (16-10-2) last fought in July 2014, a loss to Frankie Edgar. Rodriguez (8-1), from Mexico, is a rising featherweight (145 pounds) with a six-fight winning streak.

A former UFC welterweight (170) and lightweight (155) champion, Penn, 37, had scheduled fights canceled against Dennis Silver (first at UFC 196, then 197), Cole Miller (UFC 199) and Ricardo Lamas (card in Manila).

Rodrigues, 24, earned a split decision against Alex Caceres in UFC Fight Night 9 on Aug 6.

Correa infield camp Dec. 24

The Hilo Youth Infield Camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m Saturday, Dec. 24 at Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium. Lead instructor will be Kainoa Correa, a Northern Colorado assistant coach and 2006 Waiakea graduate. Cost is $50 for the camps, designed for grades 3-8.

Correa is also an infield coach and evaluator for USA Baseball national teams. His infield camps have been endorsed by St. Louis second baseman Kolten Wong, “Kai’s ability and passion for developing infielders is second to none. His camps are a must for any young infielder who wants to play at the next level.”

Pahoa High is holding a mandatory winter sports meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at the school cafeteria.
